One of the first humanists was Petrarch, who is referred to
as the "Father of Humanism." He and other important Humanists collected manuscripts from ancient Greece and Rome. One of his followers, Coluccio Salutati, was another leading figure for humanism. Many original humanists spoke and wrote very well. Almost none of these humanists believe that their view conflicted with Christianity. A lot of them even served in the church.
